From many on my FL*:  I don't do this much, but, because of various activities, particularly Q8, CA:

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a non-same-sex marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

I could go on about this - I, personally, think there would be virtue in allowing some civil arrangement that would allow people to set up a legal close relationship with other people, regardless of actual or presumed intimate relationships.  I was told by someone closely involved with the efforts here (VT) that it would interfere with other legal structures.  Anyway, it didn't happen.

*in different versions, particularly, non-same-sex <=> heterosexual

Agreed.

Elsewhere, I've noted some people who posted that line as:
Copy this sentence into your LiveJournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by those people who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

I wonder why they would do that?

Sorry

Reasonable point. I hadn't noticed that, but I should have thought of that. Frankly, I have problems not seeing that campaign as negative and exclusionary. The CA judicial decision does not, AFAIK, impose any requirements on any religious official to marry those whom the official believes should not be married. Still - that is no excuse for my participating in name-calling. Particularly when I am disgusted by some of the campaign utterances by the desperate at this season. Mea culpa.

No problem with the edits; I use them too. :-)

I would totally prefer to have civil contracts in lieu of marriage as well, able to be enacted between any consenting adults. Leave marriage for the churches.
