Thanks for the note. I knew little of that; I have my own share of "bad history" and no legal expertise whatsoever. I suspect there would have been widespread support for the concept of Intelligent Design (at a minimum) among the framers of the Constitution.
Nonetheless, I feel the problem posed by the difference in nature between Intelligent Design and any natural explanation is an extension of the problem Jefferson was trying to avoid. I agree: I doubt that the original framers would have seen it that way, and my wording was careless.
