Bujold quote meme
from
mmegaera
When you see a Bujold quote, post another Bujold quote in your LJ, and see how long we can keep it going.
Such riches to choose from...
I better get this in while I can . . .
"Shopping."
(back to lurking. Still trying to sell a house.)

Good luck with the house.

Oh, it is! I know. There was a similar meme, done in one post, with comments, some months ago, and I used it there, too.
But:
IMHO, it is the best line in SF. At least per unit length, but maybe absolutely, too.
And, it is the only quote short enough for me to remember. That's why I had to hurry!
OK, here's another one short enough for me to remember:
"Urk, sire" Lt. Vorsoisson's reply to Gregor's Suggestion that he give his sister-in-law his full trust.
Then, a little later, at Vorkosigan House, from Mark:
"Armsman, why are these intruders still alive?", probably not quite right, but close. It seems to be relatively easy to push Mark to the edge, although he can be quite patient once he gets there. Sometimes.

Oh, and, "You just go on." From Memory. Not to mention "Money, power, sex, and elephants. Changed my worldview, ever after."
And "Lead on my lord, I'm flapping as hard as I can." I love Arde Mayhew, and was so glad to see him in Winterfair Gifts. I'd have given my eyeteeth to know if he recognized Cordelia, though.
And on. And on. And on.

I like the scene where mad scientist Borgos figures out who she had been and goes ape over the Beta Survey Captain bit.
Lot of good stuff about honor and integrity, as you point out.

I don't remember anyone discussing the whole Dendarii Mercenaries name thing (and I've read the entire list archive -- we had some very slow periods on the reference desk a few times) . Then again, it was brought up in Brothers in Arms when the "imaginary" clone issue came up. Still, you'd think they'd have twigged to it before then. Not to mention knowing what Admiral Naismith looked like, and they didn't kidnap him during Cetaganda? I suppose that would have caused an interplanetary incident.
Anyway, if you're feeling brave, bring it up on the list. It would make for an interesting discussion. And knowing them, they'd probably Watsonianly rationalize it somehow.

It is the most interesting mailing list, day in and day out, that I've ever subscribed to, though.

I could have been more productive, I suppose, but I certainly couldn't have enjoyed myself more.
