countrycousin: Lego me (string theory)

I just posted a comment in the [livejournal.com profile] physics community, referring to John Baez' website.  I'll make an entry here for reference.

He seems dedicated to writing clearly and simply on many math and physics topics.  The general entry to his stuff is    John Baez's Stuff  .   He writes to many levels.  Much is understandable by the interested layperson.  Other topics are more for specialists and can be easily skipped.

Lots of good physics and math there.  Also a pointer to the Physics FAQ as well as links to other useful sites.

Have you mentioned this over on the main Bujold list? They'd probably be interested over there too.

Many thanks for your response. I am reluctant to make a post to LMB because of the general lack of relevance to the main subject. (OK, OT is everywhere, but techies aren't - most of the listies are more verbally than technically oriented.) I plan a couple more book reviews and some other posts - perhaps then I will start putting my LJ ID in my sig. I've only been here a couple of weeks. I don't envision much private stuff, so am not at all sensitive about publishing it.

I have been looking for list members, and have added them to my friends list when I recognized them on the general basis that I find most list contributors worth reading - if you have any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them. Many thanks /Richard

A good, general reference is always useful to everyone [particularly [livejournal.com profile] ase, who's rather struggling with college physics at the moment]. Lots of listies are extremely widely-read [e.g., [livejournal.com profile] stoutfellow, the math prof who's frequently talking about linguistic stuff]. Also, although not articulate as often some [like they can mug the spare electrons to get a word in edgewise ;)], the techies are about. There's [livejournal.com profile] selenite, [livejournal.com profile] celticdragonfly's spouse, the engineer. There's ever and always [livejournal.com profile] p_o_u_n_c_e_r, among many others. Besides, it's a short referral/mention; it's not like you're writing a whole book [although there're plenty up for that too].

Cross-posting is good, because not everyone reads both LJ and the list. You should also mention your LJ id on list at regular intervals; it'll remind others to do likewise, & you'll have less chance of interested parties missing out.

OK. I'm writing a guide to assist the unwary, so it may be a bit before it appears.

Good. Maybe I'll be caught up on the list by then. [Well, I always *did* like to read fantasy. ;)]

When I first saw this the other day (sorry, but I'm often behind like this) I thought it said Physics, JOAN Baez, and I thought, "Huh! Who knew?"
