countrycousin: Lego me (Plas)

A contribution to the wave of poems, from A E Housman's A Shropshire Lad:

From far, from eve and morning
And yon twelve-winded sky,
The stuff of life to knit me
Blew hither: here am I.

Now---for a breath I tarry
Nor yet disperse apart---
Take my hand quick and tell me,
What have you in your heart.

Speak now, and I will answer;
How shall I help you, say;
Ere to the wind's twelve quarters
I take my endless way.

"Blood's a Rover" was on my short list for posting. There are a lot of excellent pieces in A Shropshire Lad...

"Up lad! When the journey's over, there'll be time enough for sleep."

Yes. Was led there by Dorothy Sayers. An engineering degree doesn't give one much of a liberal education, but following links since has helped.

I went to the Dialect Soc. archives to read some of the comments on "she" that you referred to in the [livejournal.com profile] commodorified sonnet posting. I enjoyed the discussion. I'm not sure I agree with the grammar in the poem, but surely the poet's license is valid :<) . .
